November 10, by Fr. Miguel This coming week, the bishops of the United States will be gathering in Baltimore Maryland, to discuss how to respond to the recent reports of sexual abuse by clergy bishops and subsequent cover up by some bishops. This is a horribly difficult time in the Church. It is painful for victims. The lay faithful feel betrayed and many are understandably angry. I am very sorry for the pain victims have had to suffer, and for the scandal this has brought to our beloved Church.
One of the things that can bring us a little bit of hope is that the majority of these offenses have happened dating back decades. I am unaware of any member of the clergy who has abused a minor and continues to serve in our diocese today. If you know of a minor who has been abused by any Church personnel, including a bishop, please call law enforcement immediately. If you are an employee or volunteer in the Church, I am sure you are aware of the significant number of policies and procedures that have been put in place in recent years to keep our children safe.
